STOP PRESS – COVID Vaccinations (80’s and over)
Saturday 16th January 2021
We are aware that patients aged 80+ have started to receive letters from the NHS this weekend, inviting them to go for a Covid vaccination at one of the new mass vaccination centres across the North West. The closest site to Formby appears to be at St Helen’s rugby club. As a practice, we weren’t aware these letters were being sent out. However we are happy to hear about the extra vaccination appointments being made available.
The St Helens centre (and other mass vaccination sites) are being run independently from the clinics in Ainsdale and we have no visibility of their clinic dates. Patients are asked to call 119 or book in via www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination. You can only book if you have received a letter or have not already had the first dose of the vaccine.
The Village Surgery has now vaccinated approx 40% of our 80+ patients (approx 1225 patients at this surgery and 5000+ across our Ainsdale Birkdale and Formby area). We realistically expect to have completed this age group by the end of January. More clinics are being planned towards the end of this coming week (the appointments have not been made available for us to book yet).
If you have received a letter and are able to get to St. Helens to an appointment before we can invite you, then you are free to do so. It’s important to note that you don’t have to travel that far if you don’t want to. If you do decide to travel to St. Helens then you do not need to call the surgery to tell us. Your GP record is updated automatically, usually within 24 hours so that we are aware that you have been vaccinated. Although this may cause some confusion for patients (as well as for our reception staff) it is tremendously promising that more vaccination capacity is becoming available. We will do our best to keep on publishing information when we can to make sure patients know how to get their vaccination.
It is important though that people don’t call the GP surgery as the staff are dealing with extremely high volumes of calls as well as going out to staff the centre at Sandbrook Road during clinic days. Additional calls about this will mean patients wanting to get through to the practice who are ill and need to speak to a Doctor may not be able to get in touch with us in a timely manner.
Thanks to all our patients for continuing to be so supportive of our endeavours when we know that everyone is so keen to get their vaccination as soon as they can.
