Our Surgery has been open to patients since 1st May 1989 under the official name, "The Village Surgery, Formby" offering a purpose built facility, specially designed to cater for all of our patients needs. Established in the 1880's the Surgery has been sited in a variety of places within Formby and has also held some various titles.
The Surgery is supported by 6 partners (5 GP partners and a management partner), a regular sessional GP and 5 Physician Associates. A full time Adult Health Visitor, Practice Nurse, Nursing Associate, GP Assistant and Health Care Assistants also support the medical team. Medical Secretaries, Administration staff and Receptionists also support the day to day running of the Surgery. The surgery also has a Practice Manager and a Reception Manager.
Our Surgery offers a range of additional services to all of our patients, such as an Acute Care Site for on-the-day acute/emergency appointments (Freshfield), phlebotomy clinics, paediatric phlebotomy services, joint injection clinics and midwife services, to name a small few. Many different vaccinations and immunisations are also available from our highly trained Nursing Team.
At The Village Surgery we aim to treat all of our patients promptly, courteously and in complete confidence to ensure a full professional and helpful service is provided for all.
We have five GP Partners, as well as regular sessional GPs, five Physicians Associates, GP Registrars and Foundation Doctors working at the practice.
We also have a nursing team which is made up of a practice nurse, nursing associate and three health care assistants. They are here to deal with a whole range of appointments including annual reviews of long-term health conditions, diagnostic procedures, and contraceptive care.
We have a pharmacy team who are responsible for assisting GPs with medicine reviews, as well as the management of repeat prescriptions and organising the required monitoring to support safe prescribing (i.e. blood tests).
General Medical Services (GMS) contract
The practice team deliver a full range of clinical services under our General Medical Services (GMS) contract with NHS England.
Training practice status
The Practice is involved in the teaching of medical students, doctors in training & trainee Physician Associates from surrounding Universities. We are an accredited training practice for qualified doctors from Southport & Ormskirk NHS Trust who are on a community placement as part of their post-graduate studies.
We occasionally have students who sit in with the clinician during consultations. You will be notified in advance if a student is present and have a choice of requesting that the student leaves the room before the consultation begins.
